Introduction
Bachelor of Engineering is commonly known as B.E.. It is a professional technical degree with many different specializations. 'Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering' is one among that which deals with the design process of ships, ship construction, operation of the marine vessels, maintenance, etc. The part of this course also deals with gas and oil exploration, production, reservoir, refining, etc.
It is a full time course and cannot be pursued through correspondence.
The candidates become capable for designing of large cargo ships, mega yachts or cruise ships.
They also focus on power generations from fuel and its related technology.
Eligibility
The candidate should pass 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks in Maths, Physics and Chemistry from a recognized university. The candidate should be 25 years of age at the time of commencement of the course. Both male and female candidates are eligible to apply for the course.
Admission Procedure
Admission can be through entrance examinations.
Duration
The duration for this course if 4 years and these 4 years are equivalent to 8 different semesters, each having 6 months of duration. Each semester ends with its final examinations.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates can get a good job but if any candidate want to study further, he or she can enroll for Masters in Engineering or Masters in Technology with same of similar specialization. MBA (Masters of Business Administration) is also an option for them. After masters, they can go for research based Doctorate degree- PhD.

It contains study about basics of Mechanical engineering, Statistics, Thermodynamics, Dynamics, Mechanics of materials, Fluid Dynamics, etc. This helps them to learn about Ship designing. The main parts pf this course includes Hydrodynamics, Ship Transportation, Ship and Offshore structure design, Maritime engineering, Ship and Offshore Production Technology and Naval Architecture.
The last semester of course includes short term project or dissertation which is basically an industrial training to learn the practical aspects of the course. At the end, candidates need to write ad submit the thesis mentioning about every detail of their project.
Job aspects
These candidates can work in government and private Shipyards, Boat Yards, Ship Design offices, etc. They can also work in Indian Navy, Ship Design and Consultancy offices, offshore companies, Classification Societies, etc.
Other option can be teaching in institutes offering this course.
