Overview
The field of aviation has always been a fascinating one. The same is true about space too. Ever since the first successful flight was made by the Wright Brothers, man has always endeavoured to reach higher and higher heights. Such efforts have borne fruit and now we have been able to conquer even space. Aerospace engineering concerns with both aircrafts and spacecrafts. It is thus a combination of two branches of engineering, aeronautical and astronautical. Rockets and spacecrafts that fly in outer space come under the purview of astronautical engineering. Aerospace engineering is a growing field as the country is making rapid progress in sending spacecrafts to outer space and in building warheads like missiles.
Eligibility and course duration
Pass in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Math. At least above 60% marks in aggregate. Admissions are mostly through entrance tests.
Duration of this undergraduate course is 4 years.
More about this course
For pursuing this course you need to have a good understanding of subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Math and Computer Science. Here in this course you first learn about the various principles that are associated with flying. You learn about the design, development and construction principles behind aircrafts and spacecrafts. One also learns about the maintenance and safety procedures too. Some of the topics that are part of the curriculum are Fluid Mechanics, Astrodynamics, Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Control Engineering, Aircraft Structure, Avionics, Materials Science and so on. Topics on electrical, electronic, instrumentation and communication systems are also covered.
Job opportunities
Those undergoing this course have excellent opportunities in the aviation and the space sector. The number of airlines and the flights being operated from the country are growing every year. This creates a number of opportunities for graduates of aerospace engineering. A number of government and private companies are into the business of air travel and maintenance of aircrafts. The country is developing on the space front too. In future much more developments are likely to come in this field. Government organizations like ISRO and DRDO are pioneers in this field. The armed forces too recruit such engineers. In the western world and especially in Gulf countries, Indian professionals are very much in demand. There are advanced programs in this field too and you can opt for M.E. or M.Tech after this course. If interested in research work, you can further consider doing a doctoral program too.
