Course Description of MS Oceanography
Oceanography is a branch of science that deals wit the study of physical and biological aspects of the ocean. The study covers vast areas of the earth science that includes marine ecosystems, earth dynamics, fluid dynamics waves, ocean currents and plate tectonics. The subject is multidisciplinary with a combination of biology, chemistry, geology, hydrology, physics, meteorology. Oceanographers study about the marine plants and animals. They study about the marine forms origin, developments, their adaptations to environment and their interactions. They are various techniques and technologies for their observations and filed experiments. The subject deals with study of marine environment their impact on the surroundings. The subject is specialized into biological, physical, geological and chemical processes of marine environment.
Eligibility Criteria
The students should have completed degree course in biological sciences from a recognized university. They should have keen interest in studying about oceans, marine forms and possess excellent observational skills.
Additional Description of MS Oceanography
The course is of two year duration and the subject deals with study of marine environment their impact on the surroundings. The subject is interdisciplinary and they are specialized into biological, physical, geological and chemical processes of marine environment. The program focuses on deep sea coastal and esturine environments, the factors that are affected by pollution and climatic change. Oceanography connects the exploration history, trading, colonization, war and scientific discovery. The oceanographers examine, discover and explain about the characteristics of marine forms. The study subjects includes oceanography introduction, ocean depth, estuaries, ocean surf, tropical shores, open ocean, temperate zones, marine mammals and its impact of humans on the ocean. Oceanography is a vast area and includes divisions, biological oceanography that deals with the study of distribution of marine animals nutrients in ecosystems, phyto and zooplankton and benthos organisms. Chemical oceanography deals with the study of distribution of dissolved substances in sea water and also examines it mechanisms of controlling them. Marine geology involves the study of marine sediments ocean basin, plate tectonics, origin and structure, history of ocean physical oceanography involves in the study of motion of tidal and current waves. The curriculum includes internship, course work, examination, writing work, thesis presentation and research based activities.
Job Prospects
The qualified candidates find plenty of job opportunities in the oceanography departments, research sectors academic universities, seafood and sea products departments, disaster management departments. The job profiles includes biologist, oceanographers, researcher, professor, biology oceanographer, physical, chemical oceanographer, marine geologist, scientist
