Course Description of Ph.D Dravya Guna
Doctor of Philosophy is a post graduate advanced course of three year duration. The Subject Dravya Guna deals with the study of drugs. The course is designed to make students learn the various aspects of plant study, identification medicinal plants, develop drugs for safe use. Dravy Guna is the subject of Ayurveda. The terms Dravya means drug and Gun means properties. The program focuses on study of conservation of medicinal plants for research studies and knowledge translation in medical settings. The course provides extensive training in research methodological approaches and prepares them to become professionals.
Eligibility Criteria
The students who have completed masters degree in Ayurveda science/Ayurveda medicinal plant sciences from recognized universities are eligible. The selections is through entrance test. They should have good academic record and research work in the concerned areas.
Additional Description of Ph.D Dravya Guna
The advanced studies in Dravya Guna is a comprehensive course study, the studies build analytical and logical skills and equip themselves with professional skills.Training involves in providing basic research methodologies research and sampling designs, measurements and scaling techniques. Adequate experiences are provides to enhance their knowledge in the areas of research techniques for collecting data, processing, statistics, analysis of data and in its interpretation by report writing. They are also taught in drug literature, clinical research work and scientific journals and in clinical trials. The students are exposed to study subjects of Pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, toxicology, Ayurveda formulations, drug standardization, toxicology of medicinal plants of Ayurveda drugs, formulations and its preparations. The curriculum includes study of four papers; paper 1 covers the aspects of importance of dravya, origin of namaruagyana, dravya synonyms, basonyms, knowledge of Anukta dravya, biodiversity, endangered medicinal plants. Emphasis is laid on study of plant tissues, tissue culture and generally modified plants. Paper-2 includes principles of drug action, study of karma, guna, pharmacological principles. Paper covers the areas of Samyoga, amayika prayoga, drug administration principles, therapeutic uses of plants and knowledge of pharamacogenomics. Paper 4 deals with aspects of etymology, plants extracts, colors,flavors and preservation, review of medicine published by government of India.
