Introduction
Integrated M.Sc. is a 5 year course which is considered as a combination of Graduation and post graduation. The Integrated M.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics is designed to provide a strong theoretical base to generate professionals for the academics, industries and corporate sectors. This interdisciplinary course includes study about applied physics, applied chemistry, biological sciences and Mathematics. Candidates also get laboratory based experimental sessions to have hands on experience of working/ using different related instruments.
Eligibility
A candidates who has qualified his or her 12th examination with Science subject are eligible for this course. The 12th must be completed from any of the reputed boards of India with minimum 50% marks in all the major subjects.
Admission Procedure
Most of the institutes offer admissions on merit basis. They may conduct the interview sessions for final screening. Only few reputed and government affiliated institutes conduct entrance test for admission and short list the candidates depending upon their performance in the same.
Duration
The duration for this integrated course is 5 years on regular basis. These 5 years are divided into 10 semesters and the complete syllabus is also divided into 10 parts accordingly.
It is not available in distance learning ode and interested candidates need to pursue the same in regular mode only.
Please note that some institutes allow their candidates to exit the course (with valid reason) in between after completing 3 years and provide them their graduation degree of B.Sc. in Physics and mathematics.
Further Study options
Interested candidates can enroll for research based PhD in their own subjects.
Course Highlights
The course starts with basics topics from the syllabus of graduation. These include Mathematical Foundations, Introduction to Programming using C, Mechanics, etc. It also includes lab sessions for Physics, chemistry and computer.
The courses teaches about Integration and Elementary Number theory, Electricity & Magnetism, Vectors and Ordinary differential equations, Heat and Thermodynamics, Introductory Analysis and Algebra, History and Philosophy of Science and basics of electronic.
As the course moves ahead, the topics become detailed. Students learn about Multivariate Calculus, Wave Motion & Optics, Algebra, Transforms & Partial Differential Equations, Probability & Statistics, Relativity & Modern Physics and many more.
A part of Life Science and Management is also included in the course.
The last semester of course is solely dedicated to the project work or dissertation.
