Introduction
M.Tech is a Masters degree or a post graduate program with many different technical specializations. The field of VLSI is a very much advanced field and already got credited for compacting systems without affecting its reliability and data speed delivering speed.
Candidates develop their knowledge and skills through studying VLSI Designing. They learn about computer-aided designing tools, designing of special-purpose digital and analog systems and circuits, their analysis, etc. They learn about the applications and requirements of library design, EDA development, semiconductor chip design, analog and mixed signal design, design and verification of ICs, etc.
Eligibility
Being a Post Graduate degree, it requires Graduates from the field of B.E. or B.Tech with at least 55% marks as aggregate. The Bachelors degree should be completed from a recognized institute.
Duration
The duration for this course is 2 regular years. These 2 years are equivalent to 4 semesters; each having 6 months duration. This course cannot be pursued as distance learning course or in a part time mode.
Admission Procedure
This course is in great demand which in turns make the admissions difficult. Most of the reputed and recognized institutes conduct entrance test for short listing the candidates for the admissions. Some institutes also consider the scores of National test Entrance test like GATE. So candidates need to perform well in graduation as well as in entrance examinations to secure their seat for this course in a recognized institute.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, the candidates become eligible for a good job in India or abroad. Still if some one wants to continue his or her studies, PhD can be done. It is a research based course with an opportunity to learn through research and experiments. This opens the door to scientific opportunities afterwards.
Course Highlights
the course starts with topics like Digital VLSI design, HDL Based design with programmable Logics, VLSI Communication circuits, Semiconductor devices physics and modeling, etc. The lab sessions for HD based design, simulation, DSP, Analogue IC Designing, testing and Verification of VLSI Design are also included in the course.
Candidates also learn about IC fabrication technology, mixed signal VSI design, Hardware- Software Co-Design and ASIC Designs. The course also includes a minor and a major project before completion.
Job aspects
These candidates can work in engineering companies like L& T, NPCL, BHEL, Hindustan Construction Company Ltd., etc. They can work as a VLSI Design Engineer, Technical Lead, Engineering Staff, Circuit Design Engineer, etc.
