Course Description of Certification in Sericulture
India leads in the production of silk and occupies second position in the world. Sericulture is an agro-based industry. The cultivation of silkworm to produce silk is called silk farming / sericulture. The mulberry leaves are fed to silkworm larvae and after the moulting process, the larva climbs a twig and spins silk cocoons with its fluid secretions. The cocoons are placed in hot water and the silk filaments separates which are then processed into yarns. The program aims at imparting information about scientific cultivation of mulberry and silk worm production. Students learn about the principles and practices of silk worm farming and prepares them to become professionals in the field. The students should have completed 10 Class and have knowledge about sericulture. Students should have interest in rearing of silkworms.
