Introduction
Certification is a short term course with many subjects or specializations. Certificate in Newborn and Infant Care (also known as CNIC) is one among them which belongs to a nursing stream. The course started recently with an objective to improve and update skills, knowledge and capability of nursing professionals for the care of infants and new born. These candidates get specific training for nursing care during normal situation, at risk and for sick new born or infants.
Eligibility
Candidates who are working in the field of nursing and have done RNRM with Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) are eligible for this course. Candidates holding B.Sc. Nursing degree or higher degree are also eligible for this course.
Admission Procedure
Admission procedure is simple including submission of application form, other required documents and application fee in appropriate format. Most of the institutes offer admission on direct or merit basis and there are only few institutes which are conducting entrance test for admissions.
Duration
The duration for this course is 6 months only. These 6 months are including both theory classes and training/ practical sessions.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, the working professionals may get promotion in their present jobs. If a candidate still wants to pursue higher studies, he or she can pursue other related certifications, diplomas, etc to have a better job options. A regular post graduation degree in nursing is also a good option.
Course Highlights
The course includes both theory lectures and practical sessions. The main subjects are Integrated Management of Sick Newborn and Infant, Nursing Care of New Born and Infant, Practices and Procedures in Care of Newborn and Infant, etc.
The course in managed by all India networks of Program Study Centers (PSCs). Candidates get chance to work in Community Health Centers, Primary Health Centers, hospitals and community field to have hands on experience.
Job aspects
These candidates are eligible to work in private and government hospitals, nursing homes, private clinics, etc. They can also work in Community health organizations, primary health centers, etc.
Candidates having interest in teaching can join the same after pursuing B.Ed in their specialization.
