Introduction
Diploma is a short duration course for those who wants to get employed soon due to one or another reasons. Diploma in Petrochemical Technology is not a short term course as it teaches all about petrochemical engineering which needs longer time. It deals with chemicals derived from petroleum. Candidates learn about chemical compounds made from petroleum and many other sources like fossil fuels, natural gases, coal, sugar cane, etc. There are 2 main classes of petrochemicals – Olefins (like propylene, ethylene, etc) and aromatics (like toluene, benzene and xylene isomers). This course also teaches about production of olefins and aromatics from refineries using fluid catalytic cracking of petroleum fractions. Some plants also use steam cracking of natural gases to produce olefins.
Job aspects
These candidates can get job in chemical industries very easily. They can work in ESSAR, Reliance petrochemical plants, Honeywell, etc. The designations will be varied depending upon their specialization and qualifications.
Eligibility
Candidates who have passed 12th standard from a recognized institute and board are eligible for this course. The minimum qualifying marks should be 50% as aggregate and candidates must have studies science in 12th standard.
Some reputed institutes have age limit for this course and that needs to be checked before submitting the application.

Admissions are easy and candidates need to approach the administration offices of selected institutes to get the forms and prospectus. After reading the prospectus carefully, they can submit the filled form enclosed with all other required documents and application fee before last date.

Being technical course, the duration ranges between 2 to 3 years and varies from one institute to another.
Further Study options
After its completion, candidates are advised to pursue their regular studies to have better job opportunities. They can pursue regular engineering degree in Petrochemical branch where they will get direct admission for 2nd year. After that, M.Tech or M.E. in petrochemical engineering can also be pursued.
Candidates willing to work in scientific field can enroll for PhD after master's degree.
