Overview
As the name suggests, land surveyors work in an outdoor environment, collecting data by surveying the physical features of a given land and analyzing them for development work. Eligibility and course duration
Pass in 10+2 with physics, chemistry and math from a recognized board or university. It helps if you have a good knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, engineering drawing and geography. Duration of the course is typically 1 year.

Among the things that you learn about surveying in this course are setting up boundary lines, subdivisions of land, location and spatial position of the land, topography, site planning, volumetric analysis and so on. You learn about the various equipment used for surveying, mapping techniques and about surveying laws and regulations. You learn how to survey a land mass and assess its value for suitability for a certain civil engineering or construction project. There will be lessons on soil composition, water resources and hydrology. Land surveying being an outdoor kind of activity, the course involves lot of outdoor training and practice. Global positioning systems (GPS) and geographic modeling are the in-things these days that you get to learn through this course. In fact one learns to measure and map anything in land, air and water, gather the data and prepare a chart. With the use of computing in surveying one also learns the use of computers in collecting and analyzing the spatial data.
