Introduction
Master of Sculpture is a Post Graduate course in the stream of Fine Arts. Sculpture is related to the field of materials and its endless possibilities of existence through fluid forms. Thus course is many times included in visual art as sculptures also give visual effects. The main areas of this course are drawing, painting, photo media, time based art, printmaking, Sculpture, performance and its installation.
Candidates having creative thinking and proficient in different art forms like 3D modeling, casting, wood working, forging, etc are suitable for this course.
Eligibility
Being a Master level course, it requires candidates who have completed their Bachelor degree or graduation course from a recognized institute. Some institutes accepts candidates from all steams where as some institutes accepts candidates from the related stream like B.A. in Fine Arts/ Sculpture, Painting, etc only. So eligibility criteria including age restriction and minimum qualifying marks are need to be checked from the selected institute before submission of application form to avoid end moment rejection of the application.
Admission Procedure
Admissions can be availed directly by submitting the duly filled form enclosed with other required documents and application fee before the last date in some institutes. Some institutes offer admissions in merit basis and some institute conduct entrance test to validate the knowledge and skills of the candidates and the short list the candidates on the basis of their performance in the test.
Duration
The duration for this course is 2 years which are divided into 4 parts known as 4 semesters. Each semester is having 6 months duration.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates having interest in research based studies can enroll for PhD in Sculpture of any other topic. This course does not have strict duration or age restriction in most of the institute; hence candidates can pursue the same as per their suitability.
Course Highlights
The course includes both theory as well as practical portions in the syllabus. The theoretical part of the course includes topics like History of Indian Sculpture, history of western sculpture, etc. Then candidates have some field trips to study about traditional sculptures in cities, Indian aesthetic (oriental and modern), etc.
