This is a doctorate course offered by universities and colleges in India.The eligibility Criteria for admission for this course will be Master's degree in the concerned subject with minimum 55% marks. The persons applying for this has to write the entrance test and the rank obtained in the test will be the basis for the admission. SC/ST/BC/PHC person who want to apply should pass the master's degree with minimum 50% marks in the qualifying exam. The students who are in final year can also apply for admission but they should produce the pass certificate at the time of admission. The course duration will be minimum 3 years. The University Grants Commission will offer fellowships for the pupil who are undertaking Ph.D. and who qualified in the written conducted by them. The first 2 years will be as Junior Research Fellow and then Senior Research Fellow.
A research proposal consisting of approximately 1,000 words should accompany the application and indicate the Specification of the broad field of study, Statement of the research problem and scope and objectives of the study, rationale for and the significance of the study, methodology to be followed, references, and the candidate's research/work experience in that area, if any.
Research problems pursued by Doctoral students may take the form of original contributions to theory, to understanding the field, or to practice through original practice-based-research. Once the candidate completes his Doctorate Degree he can get various opportunities in colleges and Universities as Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor. Some Universities insist that before completion of Ph.D. at least two papers should be published in any good reputed journal.
