The PhD in Assamese is a full-time programme which takes 3-4 years and which is intended to provide graduates with a wide range of research skills as well as in-depth knowledge, understanding and expertise in their chosen field of research. The primary requirement for the PhD degree is an original and significant research contribution. The eligibility criteria for this course are Master's degree in the concerned subject with minimum 55% marks from any recognised Indian or foreign university. The admission will be on the basis of clearing NET exam conducted by UGC. Once the candidate in this examination he is eligible for getting a UGC fellowship and he can opt for a teaching profession also. The candidates who obtained MPhil qualification can directly join in the PhD course without NET examination also. As far as the fellowship is concerned the policy of the Universities will vary.
