M.E. is a Postgraduate degree in technical field with its full name as Master of Engineering. It has different specializations and Power control and Instrumentation is one among them which is related to the instrumentation engineering domain. Instrumentation is the basic requirement of any industry and appropriate process control and guidance techniques are very much essential for their proper working. This course trains candidates to fulfill these industrial requirements and teaches about planning, designing, installation, operation and control of instruments and complex systems.
The course is suitable for candidates interested to have a career in the field of control systems, robotics, sensor systems, etc.
Candidates who have completed their bachelor's degree in B.E. or B.Tech from a recognized technical institute and have secured at least 60% marks as an aggregate are eligible for this course. The age criteria vary from one institute to another and candidates are advised to check the same before submission of their application form.
Admissions are done through entrance tests in most of the reputed institutes. Candidates need to submit their duly filled application form before the last date. All other required documents must be enclosed with the application fee at the time of submission.

The duration is 2 years or 4 semesters of this course. These 2 years includes both theory classes and practical.
Further Study options
After completing this Masters degree, candidates interested for higher studies should pursue Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy in their stream. It is a research-based course and gives an opportunity to work in the scientific world.
Advanced applied Mathematics, transducer designing, liner and non-linear system theory, communication protocols for instrumentations, etc are some initial topics for the course. Then candidates learn about optimal control theory, modern control theory, analog, and digital instrumentation, digital control theory, etc.
Practical sessions are assigned to understand the process control system components and Microcontroller based system designing in a better way.
The 2nd year of the course includes some elective subjects and a short-term project which is to be completed before the course ends.
These candidates are suitable for working in industries like Oil and Gas Companies, Pharmaceutical companies, chemical engineering firms, construction firms, etc. The designations they can have are like Lead engineer, scientist, maintenance engineer, process control engineer and other related posts.
