B.Tech or Bachelor of Technology is a graduate-level course in the field of Technology and it is available in many subjects. B.Tech in Industrial and Production Engineering deals with the studies about developing, improving, evaluating and then implementing the integrated systems of equipment, materials, energy, etc to complete the industrial processes. Candidates learn about production engineering, operation management, manufacturing system engineering, etc through this course.
They get skilled for working in different domain like planning, controlling all activities, measuring, monitoring, etc in any organization.
Candidates who have passed their 12th standard from a registered institute and recognized board and have studied science subjects like physics, chemistry, and mathematics are eligible for this course. The minimum qualifying marks for most of the reputed institutes is 60% as an aggregate. The age criteria need to be checked before submission of application as it varies from one institute to another.
For admissions, entrance tests are getting conducted every year at different levels like national level, state level, and institute level. Candidates interested, need to apply for them separately by submitting the duly filled form before the last date. The final selection is done on the basis of performance of the candidates in the entrance test and some institutes also conduct their own interview sessions for further screening of the candidates.
The duration is 4 years of this course. These 4 years are divided into 8 parts known as semesters.
Further Study options
After Graduation, it is advised to pursue Post Graduation to have better job options in future. These candidates can enroll for M.E. or M.Tech. in Industrial and Production Engineering. Other related specialization can also be chosen as per their interest. After Master’s degree, Doctorate degree that is Ph.D. can also be done if a candidate is having interest in research-based studies.
The course starts with very basic topics like Mathematics, Physics, BioScience, electrical science, computer programming, engineering graphics, etc. Then some specific topics like elements of mechanical engineering, introduction to management, manufacturing processes, environmental science, and technology, etc are taught.
The latter part of the course includes topics like machine drawing, applied thermodynamics, probability and statistics, the strength of materials, mechanical measurements and metrology and other related topics. The short-term project is also included in the course.
These candidates can work in research and development centers, manufacturing industries, educational firms, transport companies, etc.
