Master of Engineering is many times addressed as M.E. and it is a post graduate course in the stream of engineering. M.E. in Signal processing is related to the field of systems engineering, applied mathematics, and electrical engineering which deals with the analysis of signals during different operations.
The course teaches about signal theory, detection, and estimations, stochastic processes, spectral analysis, software developments, pattern recognition, image processing, optical signal processing, multidimensional signal processing, etc.
Candidates having research attitude and want to have a scientific career should go for this course.
Bachelor or technology or bachelor of engineering degree holders are eligible for this course. It should have been pursued in same or related subject from a recognized institute and must have secured at least 55% marks as an aggregate.
The age criteria vary from one institute to another and should be checked before submitting the application form.
Admissions are offered through shortlisting on the basis of performance of candidates in the entrance test. These tests can be conducted on different levels like national, state and even institute levels.
All candidates need to submit their filled forms in all aspects and submit the same before the last date of submission.
The duration of this course is 2 years in regular mode. These 2years are equivalent to 4 semesters. Some institutes are offering this course in part-time mode and in such case, the duration varies and need to be checked from the selected institute.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates can go for Ph.D., a research-based doctoral degree which allows you to work in labs and conduct research in the topic of your interest after approval from the supervisor.
The course starts with basic topics like Signal theory, digital signal processing, digital communication, information systems numerical techniques, etc. Candidates also learn about embedded systems and applications, advanced signal processing, digital system designing and other related topics.
The course also has some lab sessions dedicated to the study of digital signal processing, microprocessors, digital system design, etc.
These candidates are ideal for working in colleges and universities teaching this course, communication signal processing companies, biotechnology-based companies, etc. They can work as a professor, research scientist, engineer, quality control manager and instrument engineer as per their interest.
