Overview

A course on cultural studies teaches you about the cultural heritage of the country, in terms of its history, language, literature, arts, etc. One gets to learn about ancient India and the traditions that used to be followed in those times. Aspects such as epigraphy, numismatics tell a lot about the various scripts that were popular in ancient India. One also learns of the various visual and fine art forms prevalent in those times. One gets enlightened about the performing art forms such as dance, folk dance, theatre that were practiced. In fact, one gets to broaden one's knowledge about the country, its people and the rich cultural heritage. One also learns about the society and the everyday practices, rituals, events, social functions and religious festivals. Among other things, one also gets to study about ethnicity, race, religion, myths, mythology and the social practices. Cinemas, films and theatre too form part of cultural studies.
Scope of cultural studies
