Introduction
Master of Library and Information Science is mostly addressed in its abbreviated form MLIS. It is a Post graduation level degree course which teaches about principles and practices of Library Science, its administration, different methodologies used in libraries, etc. The course includes study about collection management, research methods, information systems and technology, classification and cataloging, statistics, preservation, references, database management, information architecture and many other similar topics.
Candidates having a keen interest in Library administration, information management, and have prior knowledge about database management are ideal for pursuing this course.
This course is not available through correspondence but candidates can enroll for the part-time mode in some institutes.
Eligibility
Candidates holding Graduation in any stream are eligible for this course but some reputed institutes prefer candidates who have completed Bachelor of Library and Information Science from a registered institutes with at least 55% marks.
The age criterion is not very strict and needs to be checked from the selected institute before submitting your application.
Admission Procedure
For admissions, candidates need to submit their duly filled application forms enclosed with other required documents before the due date. Admissions are offered on direct or merit basis by most of the institutes. Only a few institutes conduct entrance tests and Interviews to validate the knowledge of candidates.

The duration is 1 year of this course. But it is not fixed and varies from one institute to another. So candidates can cross check the same.
Further Study options
After completion of this Master's course, candidates having interest in higher studies can pursue M.Phil. and then Ph.D. to have a doctoral degree and better career options. Other short-term courses are also available to pursue.
