Introduction
Ph.D. is a research-based course with full name as Doctor of Philosophy. It is available in all the streams and subjects including different theoretical subjects also. Ph.D. in Microbiology is completely a research course where candidates get opportunities to conduct their own research related to their selected topic. Eligibility
To pursue this course, a candidate must have completed his or her Master's degree in the field related to microbiology or biotechnology. It must be done from a reputed and recognized institute and should have secured at least 65% marks as an aggregate. In most of the institutes, this course does not have any age restriction and candidates can pursue the same as per their suitability and interest.

Admissions for Ph.D. are offered through screening based on entrance test and interview in most of the reputed institutes. Candidates interested in this course need to submit the filled form before the last date of application.
In India, national level entrance tests are also getting conducted twice a year for Ph.D. and candidates qualifying the same with good scores get an opportunity to pursue government funded Ph.D.
Duration
The duration of this course is 3 years but it does not have any strict rule. Candidates may get extension subject to approval from the supervisor with valid reason.
Further Study options
After Ph.D. completion, candidates can continue their research work in the form of Post Doctoral Degree which is again a Research-based degree.
