Introduction

Geoscience includes a lot of information about rock science. So if you are a rock scientist or paleontologist, then you can study this research oriented course to find out about rare rocks and other unknown information about our Earth. You will be doing innovative research on the consistencies of various rock layers and how they have an impact on the environment conditions. During the coursework you will be taught subjects like Paleontology, Rock Physics, Geoscience, etc. This course is an interdisciplinary field. Here, you get to know about the chemical composition of rocks, their internal and external chemical reactions, their metamorphosis through the ages and finally, their impact on changing the environment gradually. During the research period of this course, you will learn how to incorporate the Geophysics information learnt in the coursework and write innovative and fruitful papers on them. These papers will ultimately help you construct your final dissertation.

Eligibility Criteria

1. To be eligible to study this PhD. course, you must possess a master's degree. You can have a master's degree in Earth and Planetary Sciences, Geophysics, Paleonotology, Astrophysics, Geography, Geology or any other related field. Sometimes a few universities also allow students from chemical engineering to apply for this course.
2. The students must obtain a minimum of 60% marks in their qualifying examination.
3. After the initial round of screening, the students who possess the above criterion will be selected and will be called for the next round of interview. In this interview, students who have a valid UGC or CSIR NET score in Geography or a related subject will be given extra points. All those students who have already published a few papers in Rock Physics or Paleontology or Gepphysics, etc. will also get extra marks. The students who successfully clear the interview, will be selected for this course.

Future Job Prospects

• You can become a geological data analyst. Your job will be to analyze the geological data collected by your subordinates. You will have to infer the hidden information within the data and publish a paper on it.
• You can become a Geophysics scientist of either A or B or C category. Your job will be to analyze the modern and upcoming problems of Paleontology or Rock Physics.
• You can become an assistant professor in either Geography or Geology or Geophysics or any other related subjects. You will be promoted to a Professor position after a teaching experience of 15 or more years.
