Eligibility and course duration
10+2 or any other equivalent qualification in the science stream with good marks in the board exams. You will have to clear entrance tests like JEE Mains, BITSAT and other state board exams with a very high ranking for getting selected for the course.

Spread over 8 semesters, the entire course gets covered in 4 years' time. The first year being common for all engineering branches, you will be learning about disciplines like electrical, mechanical, electronics and basic workshop practices. From second year onward, you get to study your core subjects in both computer science and information technology. Even though the two fields appear similar to a layman, they have their differences. Computer science is more about computer applications, operating systems, software development, coding, programming, systems engineering and web development. Computer scientists understand the how and why of computers. On the other hand, information technology is more about the applications of computer science and engineering. An IT professional is more into technology development. They are into fields such as information security, network engineering, database managing and caring for the day to day maintenance of the network, LANs, communication systems, etc. During the engineering course you are provided with the opportunity of doing an internship at a relevant industry or IT concern.

A bachelor's degree in this field of engineering lands you the most lucrative of jobs. Based on your area of interest you can opt for a purely computer science based job in any of the software companies or may go for an IT job in the vast expanding IT sector.
