Becoming a teacher is one of the widely held aspirations of a large number of young people. To start with, it is not that difficult to become a teacher, nor do you have to be academically brilliant. Junior Basic Training, a one such teachers training course, helps in the fulfillment of aspirations of many in becoming a teacher. By undertaking this course you can begin as an elementary school teacher.
Eligibility and course duration
10+2 or any other equivalent higher secondary qualification with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Selections are based on your marks in 10+2 or through an entrance test. Duration of the course is 2 years.
More about the course
The Junior Basic Training course equips you with the necessary skills and expertise required to become an elementary school teacher. It teaches you the educational methodologies and the techniques that come handy while imparting learning to your students. You learn the ways to handle young children who are at an elementary level. You also learn controlling them and matters related to discipline. You are given lessons on planning curriculum, making lesson plans, taking assessment tests and interacting with students on one to one basis. Stress is on giving importance to individual needs of the students, as each child happens to be unique with different temperament.
Among the topics that are stressed during the course are: Understanding the child and the learning process, educational methodology, educational management, counselling, language teaching, teaching of math, science and social science, art education, work education and so on.

Undergoing this course leads you to jobs in a number of educational institutes at elementary level. You will have the opportunity to join child day care centres, early childhood education centres, creches, nurseries, montessories, kindergartens and other pre-primary schools. You may also run your own educational venture beginning with schools at an elementary level. With experience and further education, you may opt to shift to higher levels of education, i.e. middle and secondary schools. Other than teaching you may opt to become an education counsellor or a coordinator for a school.
