Introduction
Post Graduate Diploma, as its name suggests is a Diploma level course which can be pursued only after completing Graduation. It is available in many streams and Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing one among them. This subject deals with the study of attainment of information about anything without physical contact.
Candidates having an idea about how to perform GIS analysis, have the ability to alter and extend the standard analysis as per the requirement are suitable for this course.
This course can be pursued in regular as well as in a part-time mode but is not available through correspondence.
Eligibility
This course required candidates holding graduation degree. It can be B.Sc., B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering), B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology), etc in same or related specializations. This course must be pursued from a reputed and registered institute and candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in the same to become eligible for the course.
Admission Procedure
Admissions procedure varies from one institute to another and need to be checked from the office of a selected institute. It can through entrance tests, interviews and even direct. In all cases, submission of application form in common. This application form should be duly filled, must be enclosed with all other required documents and need to be submitted before the last date of submission.
Duration
The duration of this course is 2 years in regular mode. But it varies in care of part-time mode.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates interested in higher studies ca go for Post Graduation in same or related subject. After that, M.Phil and then Ph.D. can also be done to have better job options afterward.
Apart from these regular degrees, the Short-term course can be done in related subjects like agriculture to have broad employment area.

The course starts with basic topics like Fundamentals of remote sensing, cartography and global positioning systems, image interpretation and photogrammetry, aerial Photogrammetry, remote sensing field work, etc. Then candidates learn about thermal and microwave remote sensing, GIS (Geographical Information System), Remote Sensing I Mineral Explo., Soil and evaluation studies and many other related topics.
The last of course includes a project work and candidates are supposed to submit the report at the end of the course.
