Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication is an undergraduate course of Mass communication stream. Candidates get to learn about basic journalism and required skills, different mass media, recent developments in media issues, media research, etc through this course. The course also teaches about computer applications, related software, hardware, television, print media, Radio, internet, etc in the course. Candidates get skilled to work in different Medias like Radio, Television, Magazines printing, etc which provides them better employability.
Those who are having immense interest in the investigation, reporting, writing content, conveying information to the audience are suitable for this course.
Candidates need to submit their duly filled application form enclosed with all other required documents before the last date of submission. The admissions are offered directly in most of the institutes. Only some reputed colleges conduct entrance tests to validate the knowledge and skills of candidates.
Candidates need to complete their 12th standard from a reputed institute and recognized board with at least 55% marks to become eligible for this course. There is no restriction of subject studies during 12th standard but candidates having exposure or prior knowledge about this field are always preferred.
The minimum and maximum age required varies from one institute to another and need to be checked from the selected institute before submission of application.
The duration of this course is 3 years. These 3 years are divided into 6 semesters, each having 6 months duration.
Further Study options
Ater completion of this course, candidates interested in higher studies go for Masters Degree course. They have multiple options like M.A. in Broadcast journalism, M.A. in Mass Communication, M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication, M.A. in Media and Communication, etc.
After that Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy is an option for candidates having research aptitude.
The course starts with fundamentals of Communication skills, fundamental of computers and fundamentals of Journalism. Then it includes writing for media which involves both theory and practical sessions.
The candidates also learn about radio broadcasting, TV Broadcasting, Photojournalism, Introduction to Cinema, Film Making, etc.
The latter part of the course includes advertising, public relations, Magazine journalism, Internet, new media, etc.
These candidates can work as feature writer, Fashion Photographer, Public Relations Officer, Radio Jockey, Video Jockey, Illustrator, etc as per their interest.
