Introduction
Master of Technology is addressed with its abbreviation M.Tech in most of the cases. It is a technical course with many different specializations. M.Tech in Petroleum Engineering is a Post Graduation degree course which is focused to train the candidates in concepts of work-flow prevailing in the oil and gas industries. It includes the study of scientific principles to the design, development, operational evaluation of the whole system used for extraction, locating, refining crude petroleum, natural gas, etc.
The course also includes a portion of the environment and its safety systems.
Candidates having interest in evaluating potential oil and gas reservoirs selects and implements recovery schemes, oversees drilling activities, designs surface collection, etc should pursue this course.
Eligibility
Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Engineering degree holders are eligible for this course. It should be completed from a registered and recognized institute and candidates should score at least 60% marks as aggregate to become eligible for this course.
Admission Procedure
Candidates need to appear and perform well in entrance tests. It can be of national level, state level, and institute level and a single candidate can appear in multiple tests as per his or her suitability.
In all the cases, candidates need to fill and submit the application form before the last date of submission. It should be enclosed with other required documents. Duration
The duration is 4 semesters of this course which is equivalent to 2 years.
Further Study options
Candidates having research aptitude and interested in pursuing higher studies should go for Ph.D. or Doctoral degree in Petroleum Engineering. It is a Research-based degree course which will give an opportunity to work in the scientific world.

Advanced numerical methods and applied statistics, environmental technology in the oil industry, related lab practical and theoretical sessions, etc are the initial part of this course. Then candidates learn about advanced petroleum formation evaluation, artificial lift techniques, work over and stimulation, excursion, petroleum engineering and enhanced oil recovery techniques are also included in the course.
