Petrochemicals engineering - An overview

A specialized branch of chemical engineering, petrochemical engineering deals with the processing and refining of crude petroleum into organic chemicals. Many of the organic chemicals that we know, like benzene, toluene, xylene, ethylene and propylene are obtained from petroleum through refining processes. These petrochemical products are the basis for obtaining plastics, gels, resins, lubricants, elastomers and a whole range of products. The petrochemicals industry is a growing one.
