Master of Technology or M.Tech. in Polymer Technology is a Post Graduation level degree course. This course deals with the study of various industrial processes, chemists, material scientists, chemical engineering, traditional and commodity plastics. Candidates learn about different specialty polymers and their specific applications in pharmaceutical, biomedical, electronic and other sectors.
Candidates, who are familiar with different polymer engineering technologies, have good knowledge of plastics, the design of moulds, sophisticated testing methods, simulation technology, computer-aided engineering, etc are ideal for this course.
Candidates can pursue this course only in regular mode as it is not available through correspondence.
Candidates holding Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of engineering or any other equivalent course are eligible for this course. It must be pursued from a registered and recognized institute and candidates must have secured 60% marks as an aggregate in the same. There is some relaxation for reserved casts and candidates can check the same from the selected institute.
For admissions, candidates need to submit their duly filled application forms before the last date of submission. They must enclose their applications with other required documents.
Most of the reputed institutes either conduct their own entrance tests to validate the knowledge of the candidate or consider the performance of candidates in national level entrance tests.
Only a few of the engineering institutes take direct or merit-based admissions for this course.
The duration of this course is 2 years. These 2 years are equivalent to 4 semesters. Each semester has 6 months duration.
Further Study options
After completing this master level course successfully, candidates interested in higher studies can enroll in Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Technology. This is a research-based course which helps you to get a scientific career.
The course starts with topics like Automotive and Insulation Coatings, Newer Techniques of Synthesis and curing polymers, processing and Sophisticated testing of polymers and pains, tyre technology, fiber technology, etc. Candidates also learn about the theory of color and architectural coatings, modern methods of instrumental analysis, IPR, polymer recycling, waste management, polymer reaction engineering and radiation curing coatings.
The course includes some guest lectures, seminars, projects and a viva-voiced at the end.
These candidates can become a polymer engineer, a manager, technical service specialist, technology intelligence analyst, marketing executive, etc very easily. They can work in firms like Ceat Tyres Ltd., TVS Motors Ltd., MRF Ltd., Apollo Tyres Ltd., etc as per the availability of jobs.
