Introduction
Master of Philosophy in Geography is a postgraduate level degree course in the field of Geography. Geography is a kind of science which deals with the study about the Earth, its lands, inhabitants, features, phenomena, etc. The course includes 4 historical traditions in geographical research like spatial analysis of natural and human phenomena, area studies, the study of man-land relationship and area research in earth science. Candidates learn about natural complexities, human and earth dependencies, how it has changed and other related things. It has 2 main parts- physical geography and human geography.
Candidates who are willing to learn about different natural resources, extraction of mineral resources, etc should pursue this course.

After completion of this course, if a candidate is willing to study further, the only available option is Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy in Geography. The research methodologies studies during M.Phil. will help a lot during Ph.D. and it is also a research-based degree course.

As the candidate has already completed the bachelor's degree in geography, the basics are understood. The course focuses on various research methodologies, the geography of regional development in India and other countries, advanced social geography, etc.
Candidates also learn about population urbanization and migration, spatial aspects of infrastructure and development, etc in this course.
Although most of this course is theoretical, it includes a short-term project named as a dissertation at the end. Candidates need to complete this project, write the thesis and submit the same before the end of the course.
