M.Sc. or Master of Science is a post graduation degree course in the field of Science. It is available in many specializations and Physical chemistry is one of them with excellent job options afterward. The course requires candidates who have completed their Graduation degree in chemistry. Candidates holding Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from a reputed institute are eligible for this course. The minimum qualifying marks are 50% as aggregate.
Interested candidates need to submit their duly filled application forms in the selected institutes before the last date of submission. They should not forget to enclose the form with other required documents.
The admission processes are different in different institutes. Some institutes offer direct admission, some offer seats on merit basis whereas some reputed institutes conduct entrance test to shortlist the deserving candidates for the course.
The duration of this course is 2 years or 4 semesters.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, these candidates can pursue M.Phil and then Ph.D. in same or related subjects like Electrochemistry, Industrial Chemistry, ion exchange, etc. These are research-oriented courses and candidates are allowed to conduct their own research after reading the available literature of their subject.
The course starts with basic chemistry like Inorganic chemistry, Organic chemistry, Physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, etc. Then candidates learn about principles of spectroscopy, group theory, various applications of spectroscopy, nuclear and radiochemistry, the chemistry of materials and other related topics.
Details of Advanced Quantum chemistry, chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, etc are included in the course.
Lots of lab sessions and a project is also an important part of this course.
