Are you aspiring to become an engineer in the mechanical field? Does the field of metallurgy and material science interests you? In case so, then you may go through the details of the course B.Tech Metallurgical and Material Engineering, right here on this page.

Course Name: B.Tech Metallurgical and Material Engineering
Group: B.Tech.
Stream: Engineering
Course Category: Mechanical
Duration: 4 years

Overview

The field of metallurgy or for that matter, material science is quite an important one. It is the material and the metallurgical engineer that makes available a host of valuable minerals essential to run our industries, which in turn provides us with a comfortable way of life. It's them who separate the minerals from the ores, produce the metals and alloys that are widely used in the manufacturing and the consumer goods sector. The host of metals and alloys that we know is all due to the science of metallurgy and material science. The field thus provides for enough scope for work in the country and abroad.

Eligibility and course duration

Pass in 10+2 or in the science stream with 60% or more marks in aggregate. Admission to the course is on the basis of admission tests like JEE Mains. A high score is essential for getting a good college.

Duration of the undergraduate B.Tech program is 4 years.

More about the course

The B.Tech course provides you with the basic knowledge and an understanding of the fundamentals of metallurgical and materials engineering. You are taught about the various metallurgical processes that go into the separation of minerals from ores and their subsequent production into metals and alloys. You learn about the foundry technology that is inherently linked with the field of metallurgy and also get to do some hands on practicals on foundries. Along with studying about the metallurgical processes of the previous era, you are also made aware of the latest technology in metallurgical and material engineering. You get to learn everything about this field, beginning with the extraction of metals from ores, their chemical and physical properties, the various metallurgical processes, their applications into a number of manufactured goods to be used in a variety of industries, household goods, etc. You learn of the various subdivisions in metallurgy. Chemical and physical metallurgy from one angle and ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy from say another angle.

Job opportunities

Metallurgical and material engineering graduates mostly find jobs in the metallurgy and the material industry. They work in foundries and in factories dealing with metallurgical processes like heat treatment, casting, welding, metal deformation and the like. They also work in laboratories; carry out non-destructive testing and various other analyses of metals and alloys used for various applications. They may undertake a program in M.Tech in a relevant field for enhancing their career prospects.
