Introduction
Master of Science or M.Sc. is a Post Graduate level course and the specialization of Industrial Biotechnology is a branch dealing with applications of biotechnology in various industrial purposes like manufacturing biomaterials. This course has involved different branches of science and teaches about pharmacy, genetics, biochemistry, medicine, immunology, virology, cell biology, ecology, microbiology and many more. The course is a unique opportunity to learn about living organisms and industrial processes altogether. Candidates also learn the use of enzymes and microorganisms in production sector of chemistry, foods, paper, energy, textile, etc.
This course is not available through correspondence and candidates need to enroll in a regular course only.
Eligibility
Candidates who have completed their graduation in the same or related field from a recognized institute are eligible for this course. It can be B.Sc. or B.Tech. in Leather Technology, Industrial Technology, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, Pharmacology, and other related subjects. Candidates should score 60% or higher marks to become eligible for this course.
Admission Procedure
Admissions require filling and submission of application forms enclosed with all the other required documents like qualification certificates, age proof, caste proof, application fee, etc.
Candidates can have direct admissions, on merit basis in most of the institutes. Some reputed institutes conduct entrance tests to validate the knowledge of candidates and to shortlist the deserving ones on the basis of their performance in the same.
Duration
The duration of this course is 2 years. These 2 years are equivalent to 4 semesters, each having 6 months span.
Further Study options
After completion of this Master level course, candidates interested in pursuing higher studies can go for Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy in the same or similar subject. It is a research-oriented course and candidates conduct their own research on the topic of their interest. But that should be unique in nature and approved by the supervisor.

The course starts with basics subjects and topics like Advanced Microbiology, instrumentation methods, biochemistry, enzymology, Cell and Molecular Biology. It includes lab sessions for biochemical and microbial techniques.
Candidates also learn about genetics, chemical engineering, fermentation technology, genetic engineering, etc through this course.
The elective subjects include food technology, advances in agricultural biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, developmental biology, etc.
The latter part of the course includes genomics, proteomics, intellectual property rights in biotechnology and tissue culture.
