Eligibility

In this branch of civil engineering you will be learning how to plan, design and construct roads, flyovers, bridges and tunnels for the safe and smooth transportation of men and material. You will be also learning about the operation and maintenance of such infrastructures, which are very essential for the growth of a region. Other than these basics in highway engineering you will be taught how to take into account future growth in traffic while planning roads, highway intersections and their designs, geometric design, structural design of pavement, pavement materials, thickness and their maintenance. You have to also study the impact of highway constructions on the environment, the increase in noise levels and air pollution levels due to traffic.
As a highway engineer one has to estimate the current traffic volume and the volume of traffic expected in future. The main idea behind the studies is to design safer, better, less congested and ecologically safe highways for the betterment of society and the region.
