With conventional fuels getting depleted at a very fast pace and the environment getting harmed because of the burning of fossil fuels, life on earth is getting dependent upon renewable energy, all the more. Renewable energy sources like solar and wind power are finding increasing applications. Governments all over the world are promoting the use of solar and wind power. In many countries including India, large wind and solar farms have been established that are doing their bit in providing us with clean and green energy. Rooftop solar power panels too are gaining in popularity with corporates and residencies. Keeping the future trends in view, an M.E. in renewable energy is a very worthwhile program.
Eligibility and course duration
Bachelor’s degree in any engineering stream with at least 60% marks in aggregate. Selections are through entrance tests and interview. GATE or NET scores are preferred.
The duration of the program is 2 years.
More about the course
Spread over four semesters, the M.E. program instills in you the necessary fundamentals and working principles in the field of renewable energy. The course makes you aware of the many renewable energy sources that are available to us like wind power, solar power, tidal power, bio gas, bio mass, etc. You get to understand the importance of renewable energy sources in the present circumstances, where conventional fuels like oil, gas and coal, the major energy resources, are getting depleted very fast. The damage to the environment over the years by conventional or fossil fuels and how renewable energy sources help in safeguarding the environment are also the major focus in these courses. With energy demand going to rise, renewable energy sources provide us the only safeguard against energy shortage. As a result, the course focuses a lot on the developments that are taking place in this front.
Renewable energy is a fast growing sector, with more and more investment pouring in from both the corporate as well as government sector. A slew of industries has come up in the country, manufacturing goods for the solar and the wind power industry. There are opportunities in the manufacture of solar panels, photo voltaic cells, grid systems, power distribution panels and so on. There are also opportunities in establishment and installation of solar or wind power equipment on farms and rooftops. M.Phil or a PhD program too can be opted for, if interested in research based careers.
