Overview
Whether it is the domestic or the industrial sector, electrical energy plays a very vital role. The kind of industrial revolution that we have been seeing since the last century can be attributed to electrical power in a major way. The advances seen in today's electrical energy systems have been instrumental in providing us with energy security. There are major advances in the field of renewable energy which are being integrated with smart grids. Power being generated through renewable energy sources are getting smoothly transitioned to the grid. All these have been possible because of advances and ongoing research in the field of power systems engineering.
Eligibility and course duration
A graduate engineer in the field of electrical or electronics engineering, with at least 55% marks in graduation. Admission to the program is provided on the basis of written tests and interview. GATE and NET scores are valued.
Takes two years to complete the entire program.
More about the course
The post graduate program is a combination of theory subjects as well as practical works. An element of research is also ingrained in this course. The course helps you understand the importance of power and the need to develop reliable and sustainable sources of energy for your future energy security. It makes you aware of the growing need for energy and the challenges faced in meeting those requirements through environmentally safe measures. Green and clean energy is the mantra these days and is the endeavor of every economy to exploit renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and geothermal power to provide solutions to our energy needs.
Among the topics taught in this course are- applied math; system theory; power system analysis; power system operation, control, protection and dynamics; transmission systems, etc. Through this course one understands the critical aspects in the design of power systems. One gains expertise in power generation, transmission, grid maintenance and knowledge about electrical drives, solid state power convertors and so on.
