Considering that conventional energy sources such as fossil fuels are soon going to come to an end, it is high time the world gradually shifts to renewable energy. Rapid industrialization has depleted our sources of oil, gas and coal. For long our industries have been dependent upon them. They have also resulted in massive pollution, as a result we are now having to suffer the consequences of global warming, melting polar caps & glaciers, erratic monsoons and rising sea levels. It is feared that in the years to come, because of the melting of the polar caps and glaciers, the sea level will rise and many of the cities near to the coast will get submerged. The PhD program on renewable energy sources addresses the challenges in the development of renewable energy as our mainstream energy source.

The main focus of the PhD projects in renewable energy is to study and research the prospects of harnessing renewable energy at a wider level, so as to replace our conventional energy sources. The PhD projects can be selected on a variety of topics. A few such topics are on- energy storage, environmentally smart cities, sustainable building materials, solar or other green energy powered vehicles, solar water desalination systems, rooftop solar or wind power set ups, waste management & disposal, solar powered cooling, photovoltaic systems and so on.
