Introduction
M.Sc. is an abbreviated form of Master of Science which is a Post Graduate level degree course in science stream. It has many specializations in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, etc. M.Sc. is Virology is related to the field of Immunology. The course is designed with a purpose to enable the students to understand the basics about Virology, to have the knowledge of diagnostics clinical aspects and implications of the human viral disease, etc.
The course is a combination of theory classes and lab sessions which includes different experiments related to the basic diagnostics and study about viruses.
The course cannot be done through correspondence and candidates need to pursue the same in regular mode only.
Eligibility
Candidates who have completed their graduation in Science related specializations like Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Science, Bio-Chemistry, Chemistry, MLT or any other related subject from a recognized institute are eligible for this course.
Admission Procedure
Admissions are offered in different ways in different institutes. Candidates need to apply by submitting their filled application form before the last date of application. Some institutes offer direct admissions, some prepare the list on merit basis whereas some reputed institutes conduct entrance tests to shortlist the candidates on the basis of their performance in the same.
Duration
Being a Master's degree course, it is having 2 years duration. In some institutes, it is divided into 4 equal parts known as a semester. Each semester has 6 months span.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates can pursue Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy if they have research aptitude and want to have a scientific career in future. It is a course which allows you to conduct research on the topic of your interest and draw conclusions from the results.
Course Highlights
The initial part of the course includes the study of basic microbiology, immunology, virology, applied viral genetics, etc. It also includes topics like biostatistics, Epidemiology, Entomology and recent advances in Molecular Virology.
Candidates learn about Diagnostic Virology, innate immunity, immunoglobulin, and other immunology related topics in detail.
The latter part of the course includes a short-term training which is also known as a dissertation. During this, candidates are supposed to conduct a training project in any of the related firm, hospital, diagnostics lab, research lab, etc and write the thesis on the basis of their work.
