Eligibility Criteria

1. You need to be a graduate to be eligible to apply to this course. There is no restriction regarding the stream of graduation. Students from any discipline are allowed to study this course. Nonetheless, it is advisable that students of B.A. honors in Malayalam Language or Literature, or History, or Geography should apply for a B.Ed. in Malayalam. If you are a student of B.Sc. or BBA honors, you will not be allowed to teach Malayalam in any school. That is why students of science or commerce stream should not apply to this course.
2. There is a restriction regarding the marks to be obtained in the graduation. All those students who have got a minimum of 50% in their major subjects are eligible to study this course.
3. Most of the institutes offering B.Ed. in Malayalam conduct an entrance examination to shortlist the students. The test is based on the general aptitude of the undergraduate students.

Future Job Prospects

1. First and foremost, you can apply as a Malayalam teacher in any school. If you are already teaching at a school, then you can apply for promotions by virtue of your B.Ed. degree. You can also join as assistant teachers and then get later promoted to higher teaching positions.
2. If you complete M.Ed. degree after this B.Ed. course, then you can apply for teaching positions in arts colleges. Initially, you can join by virtue of your M.Ed. degree. Later on, to sustain your position, you will have to clear either CSIR NET or SLET examination.
