Introduction
M.Sc. or Master of Science is a postgraduate level degree course in science stream. M.Sc. is available in different subjects related to science stream and Sericulture is one among them. The sericulture is a study about silk farming which is nothing but the rearing of silkworms for the purpose of raw silk production. Silkworm has various species which in commercial use nowadays. Bombyx mori is the most widely used species of silkworm which is also an intensively studied species.
This course is usually available in regular mode only but still, some institutes have a part-time course to support the professionals. Being a practical course, it cannot be pursued through correspondence.
Duration
The duration of this course is 2 years or 4 semesters in regular mode and the complete curriculum is divided into 4 arts accordingly. It may vary in some institutes for part-time mode and that can be checked from the particular institute.
Eligibility
Candidates holding Bachelor of Science degree in Sericulture, Agriculture or Horticulture from a recognized and registered institute are eligible for this course. Any other equivalent course with the 10+2+4 system is also accepted.
The minimum qualifying age and marks during graduation vary from one institute to another, so it is better to check the same from the selected institute before submitting the applications.
Admission Procedure
Admission procedures are different in different institutes. Some colleges take direct admission on first come and first serve basis. Some institutes shortlist the candidates on merit basis and some reputed institutes may conduct entrance tests to shortlist the deserving candidates on the basis of their performances in the same.
Further Study options
After completion of this Masters level degree course, the available option for those who are willing to continue their studies is Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy. It is a research-based degree course which gives an opportunity to conduct your own research on the topic of your own interest after approval from the supervisor.
