Originally a one year program, there are two semesters that provide you with the necessary background for pursuing your research on your chosen topic. Before starting with the research, you will have to complete the coursework that includes papers on research methodology and another one on perspectives on communication and media studies. Semester 2 also has some electives that you need to choose from along with your research work. Some of these subjects ranges from film studies; oral, print and the visual media- practices and their effects; broadcasting media- emerging trends in digital technology and the coming of age of the social media. In between your coursework and research, you get to attend seminars, discussions and sometimes internship too. A dissertation is to be submitted at the end of the course.

After undertaking this course, you have two options. Either go for further research by way of a PhD or take up a respectable job in the media or the mass communication sector. The field of mass media offers numerous opportunities. You may join the media houses, book publishers, magazines, news agencies, television and radio broadcasting.
