M.Tech. is a Masters Degree or Post graduation degree in the field of engineering and technology. M.Tech in Bio-Medical Signal Processing and IT is a multidisciplinary course which includes both engineering principles and biomedical science. Candidates pursuing this course study about advanced biomedical signal processing, real-time signal processing, and speech processing, digital image processing in connection with neural networks and other related IT components. The course includes both analytical and quantitative studies of Hardware and software methods for whole organisms even at the molecular level.
Being a technical course, it cannot be pursued through correspondence but there are some institutes offering this in part-time mode.
Candidates holding Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of technology in any of the related fields like EEE/ ECE/ I&C/ EIE, etc from a registered institute and have scored at least 50% marks as an aggregate are eligible for this course.
This course is considered as a professional one hence the admissions are not so easy, especially in reputed institutes. They conduct entrance tests and shortlist the deserving candidates on the basis of their performance in the same.
Some institutes consider national level entrance test for admissions.
In all cases, candidates need to submit admissions forms or applications enclosed with all other required documents before the last date.
the duration of this course is 2 years in regular mode and these 2 years are divided into 4 semesters; each having 6 months duration. These semesters end with final exams and candidates are supposed to clear each of them separately.
Further Study options
After completion of this professional course, candidates can get a job easily. If a candidate still wants to continue his or her studies, Ph.D. or Doctor of philosophy in Biomedical engineering or any other related topic of interest is an option of him/ her.
Ph.D. is a research-based degree during which candidates conduct their own experiments under the supervision of their guides.
The course includes theoretical lectures, practical sessions, some electives, guest lectures, and projects. The initial phase of the course includes the study of Clinical instrumentation, real tie signal processing, and physiology for an engineer, digital image processing, etc. Then the candidates also learn about Biomaterials and Artificial Organs, ARM Embedded system design, optical coherence tomography, Speech Signal processing, neural networks, Fuzzy logic in medicines and virtual Bio instrumentation.
They ca work in medical institutions, medical equipment companies, hospitals, manufacturing units, etc.
