The B.Ed teachers training course is a mandatory requirement by the Government of India for teaching at secondary and higher secondary levels at school. It is however not the sole requirement and the concerned school or governing board may seek additional qualifications from the potential candidates. The B.Ed teachers training courses in the country are all governed by NCTE regulations. NCTE is a governing body that stands for National Council for Teachers Education. In general, every B.Ed program focuses on the following coursework that include lessons on educational psychology, educational policies, curriculum development, lesson planning, assessment, teaching aids- modern as well as traditional, instructional technology, pedagogy and leadership development. The focus is also on special education needs of differently abled children, social justice, gender sensitivity and so on.
The program has both theory and practical components. There will be various lessons on skills sets such as skill of explanation, fluency in questioning, lessons on different teaching methods, psychological tests, case studies, book reviews, etc. to enhance skill development. Internship forms a compulsory part of the practical training.
Job opportunities and future prospects
In case you are desirous of furthering your education, you may opt for an M.Ed or other postgraduate programs. Otherwise, you may take up the job of a teacher in any of the primary or secondary schools in the government or the private sector in Gujarati medium schools and elsewhere.
