Overview
The power industry is one among the highly capital intensive industries in the country. It plays a very important role in the country's growth and development. To keep pace with economic growth of the country it is essential for the power industry to maintain its growth momentum. As of now, the requirement for power is lot more than what is being generated. Further investments will help bridge that gap. A number of private as well as public sector enterprises have already taken up the initiative to bridge the gap between demand and supply. The power industry as such provides for huge scope for employment generation at all levels, be it managerial, engineer, supervisor or technician.

More about the course
The diploma program will train you on various aspects of the electrical power industry. It begins with the fundamentals of electricity like current, voltage, resistance and power. It then delves deep into the concepts of power generation, transmission and distribution. You learn what constitutes a electrical power system or network. You learn about power generation principles, about generators, grids, substations and transmission lines. You learn about 3-phase AC power, its advantages over DC while transmitting large amount of electrical power. You will further learn about the distribution system, the role of substations and transformers in transforming up or down the voltage. Among other things you will be learning about the operation, control and maintenance of various electrical equipment. You will be learning about solid state devices that help in achieving a number of operations such as converting AC to DC and obtaining different voltages in DC. The course focuses on the practical part too, providing you access to workshops, laboratories and internships in the power industry.
Job opportunities
The power sector provides for numerous opportunities to those graduating from this diploma program. Trained technical manpower is the constant need of the power industry. They are required for a variety of roles in generating power stations and substations for operation and maintenance of electrical equipment, transmission lines, etc. NTPC and Power Grid are two of the well-known names among PSUs in this field. To enhance your career opportunities, you may also undertake a degree program.
