Introduction
M.E. or Master of Engineering is a Post Graduate level engineering course and is available in all of the technical subjects. M.E. in Remote Sensing is an integral part of Electronics engineering having applications in understanding global climate change, fire mapping, ice sheet dynamics, deforestation, carbon cycle and many more. The course curriculum has an excellent balance between data analysis, fundamental principles and its different application areas.
The course is a combined form of mathematical, statistical and physical science and candidates get multidisciplinary knowledge about the field.
It is a professional course with extensive lab work hence cannot be pursued through correspondence but there are some institutes offering this in part-time mode.
Duration
the duration of this course 2 years and these 2 years are divided into 4 semesters; each having 6 months duration.
Eligibility
Candidates who have completed graduation and holding B.Sc./ B.Tech or B.E. degree from a registered institute are eligible for this course. They should also have secured at least 60% to become eligible for this course. The age criteria need to be checked from the selected institute as it varies from one institute to another.
Some relaxation in age and marks are given for reserved caste candidates in some institutes.
Admission Procedure
Admissions are offered through entrance tests in most of the institutes. These can be national level, state level or institute level and candidates performing well in the same get shortlisted for admissions.
In all the cases, candidates need to fill out and submit their application before the last date of application.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates can get a good job very easily. Candidates interested in pursuing higher studies can enroll in Ph.D. in remote sensing, a research-based degree course. It requires research aptitude and candidates can also extend their Ph.D. work by enrolling in Post Doctorate degree.
Course Highlights
The course starts with basic topics like principles of remote sensing, applied statistics, digital mapping, cartography, fundamentals of geographic information science and computer programming.
Then the candidates learn about digital image processing, spatial decision support systems, spatial database systems, modeling and applications of remote sensing.
The last part of the course is project and thesis submission.
Job aspects
These candidates can work as a manager, GIS Expert, technician apprentice, remote sensing and geometric expert, etc as per their interest. They can work in related industries like TCS, Geofiny technologies, Reliance communications, etc.
