Overview

The Punjabi language is one of the ten most widely spoken languages in the world. It is the dominant language in Pakistan and is also spoken by a large segment of the population in India living in the state of Punjab and its neighbourhood. The language is also spoken by Punjabi migrants settled in large numbers in Canada, United Kingdom, USA, Australia, Middle East and a number of other countries. Since Punjabi is the official language of the state of Punjab in India, it is taught in schools at various levels. To be able to teach Punjabi in schools, it is now mandatory to undertake a B.Ed program preferably in the subject one is going to teach. B.Ed in Punjabi is thus a useful course for those seeking to be a Punjabi language teacher in schools and educational institutions.

Eligibility and course duration

A bachelors degree preferably in the Punjabi language or Punjabi should be one of the subjects in graduation. Should have 50% or more marks in graduation.

Here in this course you will learn the various teaching methodologies that are to be used to teach Punjabi in middle and secondary schools. You will be going through topics on educational psychology, child psychology, the prevalent educational pattern in the country and the theory and art of teaching. Among other things you will be also learning about setting up the curriculum, lesson planning, assessment, evaluation, special education, policies on education and so on. You will be learning about the teaching strategies and understanding students needs. Since you will be specializing teaching Punjabi you will be further familiarized with the language. Interestingly the Punjabi language has two written scripts. Shahmukhi is used mainly by the Muslims in Pakistan, whereas Gurmukhi is used in India by the Sikhs and Hindus. You also get to work on the etymology and origin of the language.
