Course Overview
In this course, the candidates will get to know more about animals, mainly domestic and breed them by practicing selective breeding process to promote desirable traits in the livestock. They will learn how to manage farm animals, how to feed them and how to take good care of them. Animal husbandry has been a very old profession that has been practiced by humans since the first animals were domesticated. The candidates can become an entrepreneur having their own farm or they can have a full-time job working as an advisor, consultant, manager, commercial officer and so on.
Eligibility Criteria
The basic eligibility criteria for pursuing B.Sc. (Hons) Animal Husbandry & Dairying course is a pass degree in 10+2 or Higher Secondary Examination particularly in Science stream and with subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English or Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture with a minimum aggregate mark of 50% marks from a recognized college or university.
Course Duration
The duration of B.Sc. (Hons) Animal Husbandry & Dairying course is of 4 years which is divided into eight semesters, with each semester lasting for a period of six months.

The aim of this course is to equip the candidates with an extensive knowledge in the field of animal husbandry. In this course, the candidates learn how to manage and run an animal farm, dairy farm, managing livestock, poultry farms and how to go for selective breeding of animals. They also learn how to prepare meals for the animals and feed them, how to take good care of their health and provide them with medicines, checking their living area and so on.

B.Sc. (Hons) Animal Husbandry & Dairying course provides the candidates with a variety of job opportunities. They can work in a number of fields like raising cattle, sheep farming, fish farming, breeding horses, pig farming, rearing of dogs, dairy farming, bee keeping and so on. There are jobs in this field like production of milk and its products, supply of meat, eggs and wool from sheep. There are job as animal technician, caretaker, livestock manager, breeding supervisor and many more. The candidates can work in any of the numerous departments of the government. One such department in the Ministry of Agriculture is the Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying and Fisheries (DADF). There are other institutions to find employment such as the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Central Institutes of Fisheries. One can also get jobs in banks like NABARD.
