Course overview
It is a post graduate course in animal husbandry and is a very interesting field. The candidates get to deal with domestic animals and breed them by practicing selective breeding process to promote desirable traits in the livestock. In this field, the candidates learn to manage farm animals, feed them and take care of them. In this field, the candidates can be an entrepreneur having their own farm or they can have a full time job working as a consultant, advisor, manager, commercial officer and so on.
Eligibility Criteria
The basic qualification for pursuing M.Sc Animal Science course is a Bachelor's degree in Science stream with subjects such as Biology, Maths, Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of second class securing at least a minimum aggregate of 55% marks from a recognized college or university.

The duration of M.Sc Animal Science course is 2 years which is divided into four semesters, with each duration lasting for a period of six months.

The aim of this course is to equip the candidates with extensive knowledge in the field of animal science. Most of these courses are offered by the agricultural institutes spread across the country. In these courses, the candidates learn how to manage and run animal farm, dairy farm, managing livestock, poultry farm and how to go for selective breeding of animals. In this field, they learn how to prepare meals for animals and feed them, taking care of their health and providing them with medicines, checking their living area and so on.

After passing the course, the candidates investigate how to prevent animal diseases, for example by means of good nutrition, well breeding programs and effective housing and shelter. The focus is to deliver skilled professional animal scientists. The candidates can work in any of the numerous departments of the government. One such department is the Ministry of Agriculture. One can also get jobs in banks like NABARD.
