Course Description
Public health program builds skills in students to promote health care through organised efforts. The course is demanding and helps them to face challenges related to health issues. It's a post graduate diploma program with the main aim to equip students with knowledge of administration, management functions at various level of health care systems. The course prepares students with skills in communication, leadership and helps in acquiring managerial roles in the community. Program enhances scientific knowledge and attitudes to take up responsibilities in the public health sectors. Students are exposed to theoretical knowledge of emerging public health trends in the society. Ground foundation is provided for students in control and management of health care delivery systems.
Eligibility Criteria for the Course
The aspiring candidates should be M.B.B.S with an internship training recognized by Medical Council of India. Admissions are based on qualifying examination marks, entrance test and interview.
Additional Description Of the Course
The course provides extensive knowledge and understanding about health initiatives and community health evaluation programs. Program develops skills in interpretation of surveillance data and its utilization. Students would be trained to implement strategies for effective prevention and management of epidemics. They have to organize and conduct surveys for evaluation. They would be provided hands-on -experience to carry out healthcare service and conduct immunization camps. Students gain practical/clinical skills to use computer efficiently to monitor routine functions.
The syllabus covers topics on public health concepts of health and disease, social science in medicine, cultural determinants, epidemiology principles, studies, surveillance, preparedness, investigation and screening. Students would be given theoretical knowledge on data presentation, hospital administration, health planning, health programmes, implementation, pharmacy, drug procurement and distribution, nutrition, occupational health, family welfare entomology, microbiology etc. Students develop the problems solving skills in identifying the health issues and solving them with analytical abilities.
The course exposes students to various techniques of teaching and learning. Training covers theory based lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, seminars, presentations, surveys. journal clubs, assignments, field visits, laboratory postings, orientation programs, case studies,activities related to investigation, managements, evaluations etc.
