You may be exempted from the written test if you are UGC/ CSIR/ JRF/ NET qualified. Candidates having undergone M.Phil or PhD coursework may also be exempted from the written test.

Duration of the course is 3-5 years.

For undertaking the PhD program, other than having the required qualifications, you have to submit a research proposal that will broadly define the problem that you are going to work upon, the field of study, research methodology and various other details regarding the specific problem. Once your research proposal is accepted by the committee, you are provided with a supervisor who will guide you on the methodologies, nature of work, standard of research, literature and journals that are to be consulted and so on. The students will have to complete the coursework before they can proceed with the research work. The coursework will help you to understand the research methodology that you need to undertake while carrying out the research. As a PhD scholar you will be attending seminars, workshops and will have to fulfill teaching assignments, taking classes at the university. A thesis has to be written and submitted at the end of the course.
