Course overview:
Naval architecture, also called as naval engineering and is concerned with the design, building and maintenance of ships, marine vessels and structures. The course is designed to enable the candidate to be ready to take up leading positions in the naval stream.
Course Details:
This four year undergraduate program comprises of eight semesters. The first year curriculum covers basic science subjects followed by core and elective subjects in the next three years. The subjects include basic electronics, thermodynamics, hydrostatics and stability, marine hydrodynamics, machine design, elements of ocean engineering, resistance and propulsion, marine construction and welding, marine structures, motion and control, marine design, marine production, marine materials, industrial systems, CAD etc., seminars and projects. The course is taught using a mix of lectures and hands on practical, and is a basic degree program focusing on orienting the students for design and construction of marine crafts and structures.
Job opportunities:
A Naval Architecture graduate is a professional engineer who can undertake design, construction and repair of ships, boats, other marine vessels and offshore structures, including civil and military. The engineers may work on site in shipyards or from offices to oversee the above mentioned operations. They are ample job opportunities in both the government and the private shipping sector.
