About B.Tech Upstream and Applied Petroleum Engineering Course
Bachelor of Technology in Upstream and Applied Petroleum Engineering is a four year undergraduate Petroleum Engineering course which focus on the exploration and production of oil and gas. In this course students are trained for professionalism in the field of petroleum engineering technology with emphasis on upstream activities. This course includes common engineering subjects in the first year and from second year subjects related to Upstream and Applied Petroleum Engineering are taught.
Duration of this course is 4 years, divided into 8 equal semesters.
Minimum eligibility required to apply for admission to the B.Tech Upstream and Applied Petroleum Engineering Course is to qualify in higher secondary education/ 10+2/ intermediate with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry subjects from a recognized educational board with minimum aggregate score of 50%.
Admission to the B.Tech Upstream and Applied Petroleum Engineering course will be given based on candidate's performance in the entrance examniations like JEE Main. Few institutes offer direct admission to the candidates who have secured atleast 80% in class X and Class XII.

In this course students gain knowledge on physical properties of oil, gas and water, process of oil exploration, designing and developing the methods to extract oil and gas deposits and processing of crude oils. Students also gain knowledge on the fundamental aspects of the upstream petroleum engineering and develops the skills required to apply the best practices in the oil and gas sector.
Some of the subjects or topics covered in the syllabus of the B.Tech Upstream and Applied Petroleum Engineering course are introduction to petroleum operation, thermodynamics and heat engines, drilling hydraulics, applied numerical methods, drilling process system design and optimization, unconventional hydrocarbon exploitation, chemical thermodynamics, sedimentary and petroleum geology, drilling engineering and well completion, applied numerical methods, production engineering, production system design, pipeline transportation of oil and gas, reservoir engineering, reservoir modelling and simulation, production operations, health safety environment management, enhanced oil recovery, production logging and oil field asset management.
